Bellara Information
While the water in the Pumicestone Channel (in the aerial photo) is sheltered from raging surf, this side of the Island is never quiet. The less active visitor can utilise one of the many picnic spots at Bellara, float in the mild current, fish for their dinner or hire a pedal boat. After spending a luxurious morning in the quiet passage, the surfer can proceed to the beaches at Woorim which provides a patrolled beach.
For those not interested in water sports, Bribie Island National Park allows for bushwalking, bird watching and 4WDing (with a permit). The bushwalking allows the viewer to partake in the natural diversity and heritage of the island. The narrow spit of the island is bordered on the south by the World War II southern searchlight emplacement, which played a major defensive position to protect Moreton Bay during the 1940s.
The beauty of the Island is its great diversity; beaches, parks, historical sites – all within an hour’s drive from Brisbane.
