Birkdale Aerial Photos
Birkdale is a suburb just south of greater Brisbane which is within the Redland Shire. It is 23km west of the CBD of Brisbane and is named after a local landowner who called it Birkdale nostalgically after his original homeplace on Great Britain. Add to Description →
Birkdale Information
It is located on the attractive water of Moreton Bay and is cut through by Birkdale Road and Quarry Road. Right next door are Aquatic Paradise and Wellington Point and the three suburbs are home to the Aquatic Paradise Park and EGW Wood Sportfield (in the beautiful aerial photo of Birkdale).
Birkdale has a long history with the railroad of Queensland having, at different times, three stations. The original station was able to give Birkdale a status for itself rather than just being a surrounding area. Throughout the last century, the railroad has afforded Birkdale many opportunities which would not have been available had the suburb been inaccessible.
The Aquatic Paradise development was opened by the then-Premier Bjelke-Petersen and was then a canal development within Birkdale. Now a suburb in its own right, the Aquatic Paradise Park straddles the residential area of Queens Esplanade and the water of Waterloo Bay.
Also right on the water of the Bay is Wellington Point, a community which uses the proximity to the water as a selling point for ‘empty-nesters’ to move to the Wellington Manor Retirement village and spurs the local economy.
