Cannon Hill Information

The majority of homes in Cannon Hill are weatherboard and were built after the Second World War. The area is popular with families and people who work in the Brisbane CBD due to easy road and rail access. The area is well served by local schools including the Cannon Hill Anglican College and Cannon Hill State School.

Cannon Hill always has had a close association with meat production which commenced in the area in 1889. Until the early 1990’s the main landmark in Cannon Hill was the cattle sale-yards. These have been closed and demolished in recent years and new housing estates constructed on the valuable land. Many of the older residents of Brisbane and Cannon Hill can recall cattle being driven across Victoria Bridge at night on their way to the Cannon Hill saleyards.
