Gatton was formed as the stopover point between Brisbane and the Darling Downs in the late 1880’s when coach travel was the only mode of travel.
Gatton makes up a large portion of the Lockyer Valley farming region and is the shared home of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council.
The recreational spaces in Gatton include the Gatton Golf Course and the showgrounds which regularly holds events for the city to meet the bush.
The area’s heritage is celebrated with the Gatton Historical Village located on the southern border of the Apex Lake. Apex Lake is a recreational space which includes bird watching, aboriginal carving, and picnic spots along Blackduck Creek.
Schooling is available for students of all ages - from primary schooling at Gatton State School and Peace Lutheran Primary School and continuing to high school at the Lockyer District High School. Tertiary studies can be completed at the University of Queensland Agricultural College.
