Kooringal Information
Visitors to Kooringal need to either travel by four wheel drive as access is via either the beach or the sand tracks worn through the island, or arrive by private boat. Tourists going to Kooringal generally have one thing on their mind – fishing!
Aerial photos of Kooringal show Amity Point, North Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island and the Moreton Island Airstrip.
The Moreton Island Airstrip (called “the strip club”) located to the north of the Kooringal township is a semi private airstrip with the Moreton Bay Oyster Farm controlling membership. The airstrip is a soft sand and grass strip and permission must be obtained before landing.
Moreton Island is an amazing locale with fantastic fishing and camping opportunities. The clear blue waters produce some of the best seafood in the world with many species of fish being caught straight from the beach.
Other entertainment on Moreton Island includes swimming, sand surfing down some of the steepest sand dunes in the world and bushwalking. The wildflowers and bandicoots that can be found on the island are beautiful.
