A suburb in the south of Cairns, Bayview Heights may seem a standard Australian suburb. Its people are from a varied background, and of all ages. But on closer inspection, the suburb sprawls out to places such as Woree, just 5kms from the Cairns CBD. Add to Description →
Bordered by the Bruce Highway, Bayview Heights is extremely accessible via the Toogood Road, Sydney Street and Marti Streets. Its residents grace the Woree Bowls Club and some of its youngsters attend Woree Primary School (both places are shown in the photograph)
If its residents are not to be found there, they might be found in the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park. The Whitfield Range protects the rainforest from the suburbs, and provides the residents with a close escape from the sprawl. They are able to tackle the challenging walks through the park, which provide views over the city of Cairns. The little ones are taken to picnic spots in which they get to experience natural flora and fauna.
For those not lucky enough to live in this area, there are caravan parks on the banks of the creek in the Freshwater Creek State Forest. For those who enjoy their tourism eco-friendly, there is even a picturesque option of lying under African Safari tent at a lodge.
