Cairns North Information

Stroll the boardwalk along the Esplanade for fitness or leisure. Restaurants, hotels, apartments, and businesses all rub shoulders in this prime real estate. Just along the Esplanade, take a fast boat for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Drive the Captain Cook Highway to the wonderful Port Douglas and hobnob with movie stars and other elites who make this breathtaking region their second home.

Just one street back from the ocean, many residents in Lake Street enjoy a panorama of the Pacific Ocean and islands or the tropical rainforests. Lake Street was named after Captain C.L. Lake, the skipper of one of the first vessels to Cairns. Grafton Street is also to the east of Captain Cook Highway and enjoys a close proximity to the shoreline. It was originally the Chinese quarter, complete with opium dens and, during the Second World War, this carried on as the Red Light District for the soldiers billeted here. Grafton Street reinvented itself during the 1940’s and 50’s.

Many Cairns streets are named after locals: Smith Street after an early settler who lived on the Barron River and McKenzie Street after a local mayor. Wherever you choose, Cairns North is a wonderful place to live or to base your perfect holiday in the tropical north.
