Cape Flattery Information

The Cape Flattery Mine covers over 6500 hectares and has been in operation since 1967 through agreement with the original landowners represented by the Hopevale Aboriginal Council.

Aerial photos of Cape Flattery highlight its beautiful powder white sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and turquoise water containing coral reefs and beds of seagrass.

The sand dunes in the Cape Flattery region have been identified by the Australian Heritage Commission as the best development of counter-wall dunes in the world, with some of the parabolic dunes the longest in the world. Nestled in the sand dunes are spectacular wildflowers that at certain times of the year rival the more famous Western Australia wildflowers.
