Cape Tribulation is 100km north of Cairns in Far North Queensland. Aerial photos of Cape Tribulation show it stretches from the Daintree River to Bloomfield River and is bounded by the imposing McDowall range. Thornton Peak is the highest point of the Cape Tribulation section of the Daintree and the rainfall from Thornton Peak feeds into Cooper Creek – one of the most diverse mangrove systems in the world.
A number of walking trails criss-cross the area in Cape Tribulation, taking in areas such as Myall Beach, Dubuji Beach, Oliver Creek, Emmagen Beach and the famous Mount Sorrow ridge.
The rainforest at Cape Tribulation has been estimated at 135 million years old – one of the oldest in the world. Many people visit Cape Tribulation for a close experience of the wildlife, including salt-water crocodiles, cassowaries, goannas and tree kangaroos.
