The main industry in Cooya Beach is sugar cane. Access to Cooya Beach is via the Cook Highway from Cairns. The Mossman George is close by, with lush rainforest, fantastic walking tracks and safe water holes for swimming. The wildlife in this area is unique, although much is unseen unless the visitor is patient and quiet. Many tours of the Mossman area are able to pick up from Cooya Beach.
Beachfront accommodation is available with fantastic views of the Low Isles. Always popular with locals, the fishing is amazing, with the added advantage of the location being that both freshwater and estuary fishing is available.
Boat access is via a boat ramp situated on the South Mossman River, which is connected slightly downstream to the Mossman River. Mud crabs, Sooty Grunter, Jungle Perch, Trevally, Mangrove Jack, Barramundi and Bream are some of the species on offer. Other popular recreation activities include windsurfing, and walking along the beach.
