Toowomba Darling Downs Information

Toowoomba, known as the "Garden City" by locals, has a population of approximately 113, 687, making it Australia's second largest inland city after Canberra, the country's capital. This city lies at the crest of the Great Dividing Range, around 700 metres above sea level. Toowoomba's economy relies heavily on the retail trade, health and community services, manufacturing and education.

Other cities that are located within the Darling Downs region include Roma, Warwick, Oakey, Pittsworth and Allora. This region is a popular tourist destination because of its many natural and heritage listed tourist attractions, including the Goomburra State Forest and the Queen Mary Falls in the Main Range National Park. And of course, there is the Great Dividing Range itself, which is best seen in aerial photographs.

The landscape of the Darling Downs region is mostly covered in farmlands. The pastures which cover these gently sloping hills are shrouded with pastures containing all types of vegetables, legumes, and many other crops such as cotton, wheat, barley and sorghum. Many herds of cattle cluster along the various stretches of crisscrossing roads, bushy ridges and winding creeks. Farms are also stocked with beef and dairy cattle, pigs, sheep and lamb livestock.

The climate throughout the Darling Downs region, and particularly Toowoomba, is fairly predictable, with the area experiencing four very distinct seasons throughout the year. Temperatures usually reach an average of 27 degrees in summer, with the temperature rising during later summer months. During winter months, temperatures often reach a low of 15 degrees, seldom going any lower.
