The Great Sandy Straight, is a 70 kilometre protected passageway between Fraser Island and the mainland of Australia. It is a complex ecosystem comprising of mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes. Many fish and mammals use this protected area to breed.
Eli Waters is one of the main retail hubs of Hervey Bay – with Woolworths and major furniture stores all having their base there. Eli Waters is close to the Hervey Bay Golf and Country Club and to the Hervey Bay Aerodrome.
As seen in aerial photographs of Eli Waters, the suburbs of Urangan, Scarness, Hervey Bay, Point Vernon, Pialba, Torquay and Wondunna are all located nearby.
The neighbouring suburb of Urangan is located on the ocean and has an enormous pier which is one kilometre in length. It is possible for anglers to fish for deepwater species, such as cobia, mackerel and tuna without having to enter a boat.
Hervey Bay’s Boat Harbour is located in close proximity to Eli Waters. This safe harbour makes fishing or visiting the pristine Fraser Island a simple day trip away.
